Behavioral Specialist Assistant- Children's Division

Job Description:

Upstate Cerebral Palsy has various opportunities within the Greater Utica/Oneida County area. We are looking to hire compassionate, professional, and versatile staff to support a variety of individuals. Our ideal candidate would have the ability to work independently, think quickly, and problem solve.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate behavioral issues for all individuals in a specified ICF and DTX program.
  • Develop and implement individual behavior plans and on-going services through consultation with staff, evaluation of data, and observation of behavior problems.
  • Complete all required documentation according to program regulations.
  • Furnish data for individuals' psychiatric consults and provide counseling services.
  • Develop and implement in-service training on behavior management to staff.
  • Assist in educating treatment team members about services or issues within the scope of behavior management and mental health.
  • Adhere to mandatory reporting requirements and HIPAA laws.
  • Participate in activities as part of the treatment team that may include meetings, trainings, and committees.
  • Evaluate behavioral issues for all individuals in a specified residential and day program.
  • Provide SCIP training to staff in a specified residential and day program to implement behavioral programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and Agency regulations and operating standards.

Educational Requirements/ Qualifications/ Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, or a related field such as behavior science, social work, child life, education, nursing, human development, or therapeutic recreation.
  • 12-month paid or unpaid experience in a program or setting supporting persons with disability.
  • Candidates who have completed all but 15 credit hours of the BA degree requirements must show proof of credit completion and complete their graduation requirements for the BA degree within 18 months of being placed into the BSA position.
  • Two-Step TB test required, Step 1 required prior to first day of employment
  • Basic Computer Skills (Windows, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Word, Excel)
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances are warranted.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • This position has regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities).
