Position: Seasonal Summer Mercantile Associate Status:
Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Temporary/Seasonal, Staff Department:
Mercantile Reports to: Mercantile Team Leader and Director of
Conferences and Events Salary: $16.00 per hour Position
Description: The Mercantile Associate provides excellent customer
service and assists in the sales of general merchandise and
textbooks.? The person in this position assists customers with
purchases, operates a cash register, credit card terminal, and is
responsible for general stocking and pricing of merchandise. The
Mercantile Associate will interact regularly with students,
faculty, staff, and college visitors. Duties & Responsibilities:
Operate a cash register efficiently, ensuring all functions are
performed in a timely and accurate manner.? Transacts sales at the
counter including cash, campus cards, and credit cards. Assist in
pricing, displaying, and stocking merchandise. Greet and assist
customers; respond to customer inquiries and provide general
information concerning bookstore product information and location.
Provide support for Conference Services when necessary. Complete
other assigned tasks in a timely manner. Performs various
additional related tasks as assigned by leadership. Qualifications
and Preferences: Retail experience required Student employees must
report to the work site prepared, maintain a professional manner,
strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and team player.
Ability to handle cash and credit card sales and perform under high
pressure/checkout lines during certain times of the year. Ability
to communicate clearly and effectively, greeting customers and
making a positive impression on bookstore patrons. Must be
available for weekend day schedule Must maintain a 3.0 or above
GPA, be self-motivated and ability to work without direct
supervision. Basic computer skills, Microsoft Word and Excel.
