Unit MAIN FUNCTION: Coordinates activities between defined areas,
and provides clinical and administrative leadership and expertise.
Facilitates an atmosphere of interactive management and the
development of collegial relationships among nursing personnel and
others. Has major responsibility for the implementation of the
vision, mission, plans, and standards of the organization and
nursing services within their defined areas of responsibility.
Reports to Vice President/CNO, Assistant Vice President of Nursing,
Vice President/Operations, Residential Health Care Administrator.
The Nurse Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing nursing
practice through the development, maintenance, and evaluation of
systems that support high?quality patient care. This role oversees
patient, client, and staff data collection processes; ensures
nurses have an environment that supports professional assessment,
diagnosis, and clinical decision?making; and manages information
workflows that promote client?centered outcomes. The Nurse Manager
directs organizational planning systems that facilitate effective
nursing care delivery and continuously evaluates plans and progress
toward desired outcomes. This position ensures the quality and
effectiveness of nursing practice and nursing service
administration within their scope of responsibility. The Nurse
Manager also conducts ongoing self?evaluation based on professional
standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational
expectations. A key component of the role is fostering a
professional, ethical work environment while collaborating across
all levels of nursing, interdisciplinary teams, executive
leadership, and other stakeholders to support coordinated,
high?quality care. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Evaluates
assessment practice to assure timely, reliable, valid and
comprehensive data collection. Facilitates integration of unified
assessment processes developed in collaboration with other health
care disciplines and across the continuum of care. Maintaining
competency in the diagnostic process. Facilitates interdisciplinary
collaboration in data analysis and decision-making process.
Promotes the integration of clinical, human resource, and financial
data to support decision-making. Facilitates nurse participation in
the monitoring and evaluation of nursing care in accordance with
established professional, regulatory, and organization standards of
practice. Fosters interdisciplinary planning and collaboration that
focus on the individuals and population served by: conducts daily
manager rounds observation of caregiver interactions and practice
interactions with patients/families on a regular basis facilitates
daily multi-disciplinary rounds and ensures that hourly rounding is
carried out by staff. Promotes and supports staff in developing and
maintaining competency in the planning and practice of patient
care. Collaborates in the improvement of systems to assure
appropriate and efficient documentation. Assures appropriate
orientation, education, credentialing, and continuing professional
development for unit-based staff. Utilizes data generated from
outcome research to develop innovative changes in patient care
delivery. Identifies key quality indicators for monitoring and
evaluation including outcome of nursing care. Shares knowledge and
skills with colleague and others, and acts as a role model/mentor.
Contributes to an environment of mutual respect, understanding, and
effective communication. Supports the system to address ethical
issues within nursing and the organization. Assumes responsibility
for staffing and scheduling of personnel. Assignments reflect
appropriate utilization of personnel. Accepts accountability for
individual and unit based nursing staff professional practice.
Respects and recognizes each patient/staff member as a unique
individual and directs holistic nursing care for unit. Assures
collaboration with appropriate disciplines to assist staff to
practice effectively. Communicates effectively and efficiently
between self and unit staff and with other units/disciplines.
Assures that care planning process is done. Demonstrates leadership
and availability to nursing staff. Identifies own learning needs
and staff needs, and develops education plan accordingly, including
continued development of technical and critical thinking skills.
Participates in Unit, Division of Nursing, and Arnot Health
Councils/Committees, as appropriate. Makes decision based on unit
feedback and need. Fosters quality improvement in nursing practice
at Nurse Manager level. EDUCATION: BSN required, or completed
within a negotiated time frame. MSN desirable. Current NYS nursing
licensure. Certification in nursing specialty or nursing
administration desirable. Education /experience in the principle of
administration and supervision desirable. Meet Arnot Health
employment criteria. Excellent communication and writing ability.
EXPERIENCE: Prior proven experience and expertise in clinical area
relevant to patient population (minimum 5 years clinical
experience). CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date.
Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required in critical care
units. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Appreciable physical effort required.
Moving, lifting, and assisting patients whose size and physical
ability can vary greatly. Some lifting, reaching, and stooping.
Required to be on feet much of the time. EXPOSURE CATEGORY:
Category I. Tasks that involve exposure to blood and body fluid or
