Job Description Job Description Job Title Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Medical Step-Down Unit (MSDU) Profession Registered Nurse Specialty Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Step-Down Unit Assignment Details Contract Length: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift | 3 × 12-hour shifts Shift Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM Location Rochester, New York Position Overview The PCU/MSDU Registered Nurse will provide intermediate-level nursing care to adult patients requiring closer monitoring and more complex interventions than a general medical-surgical unit. This role supports patients transitioning from critical care as well as those admitted from the Emergency Department, PACU, and inpatient units. Unit Overview This is a 26-bed Intermediate Care / Step-Down Unit delivering evidence-based, multidisciplinary care to adult acute-care patients. All patients are on continuous telemetry and pulse oximetry. The unit manages patients requiring airway support, BiPAP, arterial lines, central lines, and titratable IV medication infusions. Nurses must be adaptable, vigilant, and skilled in managing varying levels of patient acuity. Staffing & Scheduling Patient Ratio: 1:5 to 1:7 Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend First-Time Travelers: Accepted Local Candidates: Must reside outside a 75-mile radius Experience & Licensing Requirements Minimum Experience: 1 year of PCU, Step-Down, or equivalent acute care experience NY State RN License: Required and must be in hand (no exceptions) Required Certifications BLS (Required) Required Clinical Skills & Competencies Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias Use of Rapid Response and Code Teams IV Therapy & Phlebotomy Peripheral IV line care and management Respiratory Care Nasal cannula Oxygen face masks Portable oxygen systems Non-invasive airway management (e.g., BiPAP) Professional Practice Isolation precautions Multidisciplinary collaboration Evidence-based patient care Technology & Documentation Electronic Medical Record: EPIC ( experience required ) Facility Overview Facility Type: Tertiary Care Hospital Licensed Beds: 500 Scrubs Any combination of navy and white For more details reach at sthakur@navitashealth.com or Call / Text at 732 791 4807 - EXT 4807 .
