The RN is responsible for the prevention of illness and injury. The RN alleviates suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response. Advocacy in the care of individuals and families is a critical component of the role. The RN assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care. The RN manages a group of patients, serving as a primary nurse when designated. Education of patients and families in health promotion and disease management is essential. The RN utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology and administers medications safely. Responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization is shared. Compliance with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements is mandatory. Active participation in the Nursing Shared Governance Model is encouraged. Engagement in professional development and continuing nursing education is vital. Integration of nursing research and current evidence into practice is expected. The RN provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
