Job Description:
Job SummaryThe Occupational Therapist is responsible for
evaluating, planning, and providing occupational therapy treatment
programs for patients whose injury or disease interferes with daily
functioning. This position requires skilled intervention using
various techniques to achieve identified goals, restore function,
or prevent disability. The Occupational Therapist may work in an
inpatient, outpatient, or home care setting.Key
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments on patients of all ages, including
neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, and geriatrics, in accordance
with patient diagnosis and physician orders.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in
collaboration with patients, families, and caregivers.
- Implement treatment programs using various occupational therapy
procedures and techniques to produce changes consistent with the
diagnosis and prognosis.
- Evaluate treatment effects and update the plan of care as
needed.
- Formulate discharge or follow-up plans, including continuation
or discontinuation of O.T. services, implementation of home
programs, recommendations for adaptations/equipment, and community
resources.
- Provide education and training to patients and families,
including instruction on the application, care, and precautions of
orthotic devices and equipment.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, make referrals to
other practitioners, and attend patient case conferences or
discharge planning meetings.
- Conduct patient home evaluations, gather information, and make
recommendations for changes or equipment to promote patients'
highest level of functioning within the home.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation and reporting,
including submission of patient charges.
- Communicate patient or problem issues to supervisors,
physicians, families, and staff.
- Anticipate and communicate adverse outcomes or medical changes
to referral sources and staff.
- Perform all aspects of care in a manner that optimizes patient
and therapist safety and reduces the likelihood of
medical/healthcare errors.
- Stay current with trends and best practices in occupational
therapy treatment techniques, modalities, equipment, and exercise
programs.
- Comply with all regulations, professional standards, and MVHS
policies.
- Provide clinical supervision and direction to COTA and OT
students, as well as assist with the orientation of new staff
members.
- Maintain a positive and collaborative working relationship
within the department and with other departments.
- Participate in departmental performance improvement/Continuous
Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.Education/Experience
RequirementsREQUIRED:
- Bachelor of Science or Master's Degree in Occupational
Therapy.
- Ability to travel to other worksites within the
region.Licensure/Certification RequirementsREQUIRED:
- NYS license as an Occupational Therapist.
