Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the Laboratory Medical Director, Laboratory Director and Laboratory Manager, the Pathologist Assistant performs gross pathologic specimen dictation and dissection on any simple or complex surgical or Autopsy specimens to include all relevant and necessary gross parameters required for specimen evaluation and classification.Core Job Responsibilities

• Knowledeable in the handling of specimens from accessioning to final specimen stage - - - - - - - - -
• Performs complex postmortem examinations and surgical tissue specimen examination - - - - - - - - -
• Performs gross specimen gross photography as needed. - - - -
• Helps maintain Standard Operating Proecdures, ordering or supplies and general maintenance of the morgue - - - - - - - - -
• Maintains up to date inventory and overall quality of morgue. - - - - - - - - -
• Assists in the processing of frozen section specimens to include cryostat operation and slide staining. - - - - - - - - -
• Answers telephones, maintains logs/records, organizational skills. Proficiency with numbers, research information, time management, train employees, use computerized databses, written and verbal communications. - - - - - - - - -
  -Education/Experience RequirementsRequired:
  • Graduated from a NYS approved Pathologists' Assistant training program or grandfathered training.Preferred: -
    • Graduated from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant training programLicensure/Certification RequirementsRequired:
      • NYS licensed Pathologists' Assistant or meets requirements to get this license within 1 year of on-boardingPreferred: -
