Job Description:
Superior Metals Manufacturing is currently looking for a
Director of Materials to join our team! The Director of Materials
is responsible for overseeing the entire materials management team,
encompassing procurement, inventory management, the SIOP process,
cycle counting, contract negotiations, and production planning.
This role ensures the efficient and cost-effective acquisition of
materials, drives supplier relationship management, and aligns
procurement strategies with organizational goals. Special emphasis
on candidates with prior metals manufacturing experience or
background working in aerospace companies with exact technical and
quality standards and traceability requirements. Location:
Chittenango, NY Employment Type: Full-Time Salary: $120,000 -
$160,000, but will be evaluated depending on candidates’ knowledge,
skills, and abilities. Essential Job Functions/Duties: Strategic
Procurement Leadership: Develop and implement comprehensive
procurement strategies to meet business objectives, ensuring
cost-effective and timely acquisition of materials and services.
Personnel working in directly related or competitive industries or
companies who exhibit experience in the realm of establishing
supply chains for both elemental and revert based materials
acquisition strategies. Materials Management: Oversee the entire
lifecycle of materials, from procurement and inventory management
to distribution and disposal, ensuring optimal material usage and
cost efficiency. Supplier Relationship Management: Cultivate and
maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, negotiate
contracts and master service agreements, formulate pricing locks
and manage disputes to ensure timely delivery of high-quality
materials. Inventory Management: Implement and manage inventory
control systems, including cycle counting and regular audits, to
maintain accurate inventory records and prevent stockouts. Sales,
Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP): Lead the SIOP process,
aligning sales forecasts with procurement and production plans to
ensure seamless operations and meet customer demands. Initially
developing LOB and production plans that are locked with internal
customer plants but eventually pivoting to additional external
customers as the facility grows over time and adds additional metal
pouring capacities and capabilities. Production Planning:
Collaborate with production teams to develop and implement
production plans, ensuring that materials are available when needed
to meet production schedules. Team Leadership: Lead and develop the
materials management team, fostering a collaborative environment
that encourages continuous improvement and innovation. Compliance:
Ensure all procurement and materials management activities comply
with industry standards and environmental regulations. Cost
Management: Analyze market trends and supply chain dynamics to
achieve cost reductions while maintaining quality standards. Vendor
Pricing Agreements: Manage vendor pricing agreements, including
Terms & Conditions, and formulating and negotiating pricing locks
with an understanding of the volume of parts purchased and options
for alternative suppliers. Special Projects: Work on and
participate in special projects as needed or assigned by
Management. Key Dimensions: Cost Savings: Achieve cost savings on
category items purchased. Order Fulfillment: Ensure timely
fulfillment of orders. Vendor Management: Effectively manage a
diverse portfolio of vendors. Key Relationships & Leadership:
Reports to: General Manager/VP Direct reports: Lead a talented
Procurement Team, Production Planner(s), Shipping and receiving
personnel Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in business
administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; an
advanced degree is a plus. Experience: Minimum of 10 years of
experience in metals procurement and materials management within
the aerospace industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Experience with sourcing of restricted markets (i.e. rare earth
materials) is highly preferred. Certifications: Relevant
certifications in procurement and supply chain management (e.g.,
CPSM, CPIM, CSCP) are preferred. Skills: Technical Skills:
Proficiency in procurement software, ERP systems, and inventory
management systems. Leadership: Strong leadership and team-building
skills. Negotiation: Excellent negotiation and contract management
skills. Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving
abilities. Communication: Excellent communication skills, both
written and verbal. Organization: Highly organized with the ability
