data infrastructure that millions depend on. SMC is actively
looking for a ICT Designer to execute telecommunications design for
mission critical projects. Typical project types may include design
of greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, design of
fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients of
colocation providers, data center campus planning, conceptual
designs and feasibility studies, and other mission critical
applications such as command-and-control centers. This candidate
shall be capable of executing basic telecommunications design
projects independently, taking established design criteria through
generation of design plans and specifications for permitting and
construction. The candidate shall also be capable as serving as a
key contributor in part of a larger telecommunications design team
on large and/or complex mission critical projects under the
guidance of a senior engineer. The telecommunications design scope
will be a part of a broader project and therefore this candidate
should be capable of interfacing with design leads within SMC
(mechanical, electrical, A/V) as well as externally including
architectural, civil, structural, etc. The ideal candidate will be
comfortable mentoring recent graduates and junior designers and
engineers, reviewing the work of others, and collaborating with
senior engineers to implement broad project goals. RESPONSIBILITIES
This candidate will have the opportunity to execute
telecommunications design of various project types while working
and coordinating with clients and design leads from all
disciplines, as well as serve as the daily lead on smaller
projects. This candidate shall have the ability to communicate
effectively with co-workers and with clients while being able to
meet scheduled project deadlines. Responsibilities include but are
not limited to: Design telecommunications infrastructure for
mission critical buildings and campuses including outside plant
infrastructure, inside plant cabling, cable tray and conduit
conveyance systems, telecommunications space layouts,
telecommunications bonding network systems, rack elevations,
wireless access point layouts, and communications for MEP
controls/monitoring systems. Produce complete sets of construction
drawings suitable for stamping and submission utilizing Autodesk
Revit. Working knowledge of Telecommunications standards, including
but not limited to TIA, BICSI, and UL. Coordinate with all
disciplines for required telecommunication interfaces. Editing, and
understanding of Division 27 Specifications. Coordinate power
requirements with internal or external electrical engineers. Be
capable of reviewing and understanding client standards, design
criteria, applicable standards, and best practices in order to
apply them to a design project. Serve as a trusted advisor and
subject matter expert to clients for telecommunications design and
all aspects of Division 27. Understand local and national
construction codes and project specifications. Have experience with
the use of Microsoft tools such as Word, Power Point, Excel, and
Teams. Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to
complete major deliverables. Have the ability to travel when
required to project sites (less than 10% travel). Have the ability
to clearly communicate with others in both written and spoken
forms. Lead junior engineers, designers, and modelers, and
coordinate the tasks of small project teams to execute delivery of
specific design elements. Mentor and train junior engineers,
designers and modelers to assist in developing telecommunications
design knowledge base. Maintain excellent organizational skills,
with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
QUALIFICATIONS Education in an engineering or construction-related
field, or equivalent hands-on experience. Minimum of 4 years of
experience in telecommunications design, with a strong emphasis on
Autodesk Revit for drawing development. Experience with MEP or
telecommunications firms, consulting roles, or telecommunications
construction will also be considered Minimum 2 years of experience
with an MEP/Telecommunications consulting firm or specialty
telecommunications consulting firm. Experience in
telecommunications design for industrial and commercial buildings.
Experience in telecommunications design for mission critical
projects is a plus. Experience working across the entire
construction process, from schematic design through construction
administration, including review of submittals, RFIs, and shop
drawings, and field work such as existing condition surveys, site
observations, and punch lists. Experience using construction
management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
Experience with design of security and/or audio-visual systems is
not required but would be a plus. Knowledge of controls and
monitoring systems for mechanical and electrical systems is a plus.
Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), Data Center
Design Consultant (DCDC), Engineer in Training preferred (EIT) or
Professional Engineering (PE) Licenses are a plus. COMPENSATION
Base Compensation: $75,000-$125,000 (Actual compensation is subject
to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skills
and/or location) SMC offers a competitive benefits package, with a
